Description: Mercedes Sosa is one of those great cultural folk-type singers to come from the West. Born in northwestern Argentina, Sosa was mestizo, French and Quechua (of Incan ancestry). She became famous around the same time as Silvio Rodriguez (who wrote this song), and they both ended up symbols of the revolutionary movements in Latin America. Sosa died last October.
